In November 2007 the HP P1005 and P1006 printers were introduced worldwide, with the exception of China and India where they were marketed as the P1007 and P1008 models. All were replaced in April 2010 by the P1102 models.

Printers ship with 1, page yield  "introductory" (starter) cartridges that are physically smaller than the replacement cartridges. Printers will not function properly with a spent chip or with a chip missing from these cartridges, and a replacement chip solution is needed in order to remanufacture these cartridges with comparable OEM functionality.
